Cyclingold bike by Dutch canal
Cycling on our bicycles beside the canal/river whilst we cruise in the morning is fun, stopping at each lock to watch Zwaan van Maaike rise or fall as the canal navigates the undulating country-side. Some of the canals and rivers have fine cycle paths, some are merely trodden paths through the grassy bank.

Some afternoon excursions are best experienced on bicycle, allowing time to soak in the views and vistas, we can even provide a packed lunch to make the excursion into an expedition.

Cyclists are welcome to bring their own bicycles on board, we can stow our bicycles in the forepeak and secure Guests bicycles on the racks on the aft deck (above the crew cabin). Cycling trips to enjoy the wonderfully quiet roads can be either in the morning, or the afternoon. For the morning cycle we can rise early and load the bicycles on the MPV and head off to the start of the Guests route back to the barge, at it's lunch-time mooring. Distances can be as requested, as long as the crew can return to the barge in time to move her.  The afternoon cycle is a case of do as you wish.

On board we have a workshop stand and tool kit for basic bicycle maintenance, if required, however all the countries we visit have a huge cycling culture, so bicycle shops/workshops are widely available and usually well stocked. Andrew has attended a basic bicycle maintenance course and so will try to fix any mechanical problems.

Our bikes are good quality folding bicycles, which we store in the forepeak and secure on the aft deck when Guests ask to have them available. We have a few cycle helmets available, which we do wash, but it is preferable for Guests to bring their own. Andrew is a keen cyclist, riding most weekends, on road and off road - cross country (a.k.a. mountain biking), but not the downhill variety, too scary!!
